<aside> ℹ️ I'm working on a menu-bar app for macOS that adds ribbon key shortcuts for Excel. During development, I'll be making the app available here for anyone to try it out and provide feedback. If you'd like to contribute (technically or non-technically), feel free to contact me.

The first time the app runs, it should ask for you to turn allow the app to control your computer via the accessibility system preferences. You have to enable this for the shortcuts to work. If you miss this the first time, the setting can be found by going to the privacy tab in security & privacy in system preferences, selecting accessibility in the sidebar, and adding the app to the list of apps allowed to control your computer. The only things I am using this for are to monitor when you click any relevant keys while in the Excel app and to do the relevant Excel actions. I don't collect/store/send any information.
If you want to start Excel Ribbon Keys at login, go to users & groups in system preferences, select the login items tab, click the + button, and add Ribbon Keys for Excel.app
(in your Applications folder) to your login items. Note that you may skip this step and instead manually launch and quit the app as needed. A ribbon app icon will appear in your menu bar to signify that the app is running.
Open an Excel sheet. Commands available at any time after you hit option will be displayed on a popup overlay.
You can quit the app anytime by clicking the icon in the menu bar.

will click the shading and shade whatever is selected as the most recent color. Some other examples where this will work will be for borders, font color, and merge and center.
